The digital generation of today is affectionately called the millennials. Although learning can be achieved through new resources (Dr. Google) and experiences (digital media), the need to establish a construct (like the ABCs for spelling) remains immutable. I have spent over three decades teaching the principles that underlie kidney disease. Much of my teaching takes place in an experiential setting (patient rounds and small groups). This work reflects a distillation of these experiences. Although the chapter progression is logical, each chapter can be read without previous knowledge. The book is chalked full of media (illustrations, algorithms, and photomicrographs). I have also included incremental, reflective questions, so students can build on, and grow their knowledge.
